HOT BED PRESENTS:

WACK!

HOT BED is pleased to present WACK!, an open-call exhibition featuring twenty-four contemporary artists. This exhibition opens June 17, 2023, with an opening reception from 6 - 9 PM and runs through August 12, 2023 with a closing reception 6 - 9 PM. Visitors can RSVP for gallery hours and/or special events at hotbedphilly.com/appointments. As always, HOT BED is free and open to the public.

When the world gets too weird to comprehend, art and design of the moment reflect that. Weirdness is becoming the new norm. In light of forced detachment from pre-COVID lives, HOT BED has gathered the latest perspectives on the new and unfamiliar. WACK! invites artists and viewers to lean into the absurdity of our present moment. The artists in this exhibition fearlessly embrace how “wack” life in Philly has become and show us what wonderful things this weirdness creates.

WACK! upholds HOT BED’s commitment to transforming the Philadelphia arts scene through memorable encounters with culture. Since its founding five years ago, HOT BED has cultivated spaces where creativity flourishes. We provide the Philadelphia community with an environment of growth and enrichment carefully curated in our trademark biophilic gallery. Our goal is to produce the next great idea. Our method? Leaning into the zany, the wild, the weird.

The exhibition will be on view from June 17 - August 12, 2023, To RSVP,

The artists of WACK! present works ranging from livestock-inspired lamps to psychedelic landscapes, large-scale installations to tiny figurines, hand-knit sculptures to digital animations, and more. No work is too “out there” for this exhibition, which invites viewers to let loose loose their wild side. WACK! rethinks what art is and should be, and offers visitors a new way to engage with art and the weirdness of the world today. HOT BED encourages visitors to leap into the wild worlds of WACK! with us. Don’t be shy, Philly: let’s get weird!

About HOT BED

Established in 2017, HOT BED is a gallery and creative lifestyle space in Philadelphia that unites art, horticulture, and design. Helmed by Creative Director Bryan Hoffman, HOT BED is a catalyst and a conduit for futures not yet realized. It’s a gathering place, not unlike the Paris Salons of the nineteenth century, where visitors and artists alike have the opportunity to collaborate, exhibit, and explore new ideas in a welcoming and judgment-free environment.
