HOT BED PRESENTS:

GLOBAL CURRENTS

HOT BED is pleased to present Global Currents, a two-person exhibition featuring works by Su Knoll Horty and Ziui Chen curated by HOT BED’s Owner and Creative Director Bryan Hoffman. Global Currents embodies Livent’s international reach and mission to transform and connect the world through its core values of innovation, thriving, and celebration of differences.

In geography, antipodes are regions diametrically opposed across the planet: if you were to draw a straight line through the earth from Taipei, Taiwan, for example, it would connect to Asunción, Paraguay. Antipodes create circuits of radical difference, tethering polar opposites in ways that encourage us to rethink our global community. A majority of antipodes can be found between East Asia and South America–two of Livent’s key markets. Global Currents brings together two contrasting artists to symbolize Livent’s position as a metaphoric antipode, a connector across cultures and geographies. Su Knoll Horty, an abstractionist based in the Philadelphia region, represents Livent’s headquarters in Center City, Philadelphia. Chinese-born Ziui Chen, whose work melds Chinese and Euro-American painting traditions, represents the global exchange of ideas and innovations Livent delivers for their clients. Together, these artists represent the full spectrum of Livent’s impact, illustrated in vivid colors and exciting compositions.

The title of this exhibition, Global Currents, is both metaphoric and literal. In a metaphoric sense, Livent fosters currents of cultural exchange that travel across the globe. In a literal sense, Livent’s Lithium-based products power innovative expeditions, economic endeavors, and other critical practices internationally. In bringing together Knoll Horty and Chen’s paintings, HOT BED presents a visual representation of Livent’s cultural prominence and broad reach.
